Emergency Dental

Dental emergencies include severe pain or unexpected injury to your teeth that can’t wait until your next appointment. We’re here for you when you need us most.

Toothache

Toothache is a common dental problem that can quickly escalate into an emergency depending on the severity of the pain you are experiencing. Toothache pain is quite debilitating – it can affect your sleep and ability to focus and be productive during the day.

Toothaches can be caused by a broken filling, a loose or cracked tooth, infection, decay, or injury.

If you are suffering from a toothache, contact us to make an emergency dental appointment so we can relieve the pain and diagnose the problem.

While you wait, some things to try at home to ease your symptoms include:

  • Apply a cold compress to the area.
  • Rinse, hold and spit a cup of lukewarm water mixed with a teaspoon of salt. This can help to soothe and clean and disinfect the area.
  • Rest with your head elevated, as sometimes lying flat can exacerbate the pain you are feeling.
  • Take paracetamol or anti-inflammatories for pain relief, as per the directions on the box.

Infection

If you are experiencing a toothache, you may have an infection. Symptoms of dental infections include:

  • Severe tooth pain
  • Swelling of the gums
  • Fever
  • Bad taste in, or odour from, your mouth
  • Difficulty swallowing

If you have any of these symptoms, please contact our practice so that our team can make an emergency dental appointment for you. Timely treatment is required to ensure the infection does not spread or cause other complications. At your appointment we will diagnose the cause of your infection and discuss the treatment options with you.
