Dental Check-ups and Diagnostics

Dental check-ups are not just for teeth. We can also assess your gums, jawbone, temporomandibular Joint (TMJ), and palate to check for current problems or risk factors that may contribute to future concerns.

Digital Radiology

Digital radiography allows us to capture an x-ray using electronic sensors, rather than traditional film. This technology reduces your exposure to radiation by 90% and provides clearer images for an accurate diagnosis.  Digital radiography allows us to see through the gums, teeth and bones to investigate the structures below the surface.

Laser Fluorescence

Laser fluorescence allows dental caries – cavities – to be diagnosed without the use of x-rays. Instead, a small, hand-held device emits a laser into the tooth which measure the fluorescence of the dental tissue. Healthy enamel emits a different pattern compared to decayed areas. This information may not be visible on a traditional x-ray. Laser fluorescence enables early intervention, which in turn enhances long-term oral health.

Transillumination

Transillumination is another way to identify tooth decay without an x-ray. For this procedure, a light source at a certain wavelength is aimed at the tooth. Healthy teeth appear translucent – the light passes through – whereas areas of decay will block the light. This process is non-invasive, quick and provides immediate feedback about the integrity of your teeth.
